The Sprague DNA Project highly recommends Family Tree DNA as your testing company. This ensures compatibility between test results and allows for better coordination of this project.
The Sprague DNA Project uses Genetic Genealogy as a supporting tool for genealogical research on the Sprague and Sprague-derivative surnames including Sprag, Sprage, Spragg, Spragge, Spraggs, Spraggue, Sprags, Sprake, Sprig, Sprigg, Sprigge, Spriggs and any other variations not listed.
Two $50 Grants for Spragg DNA Testing AvailableThe Sprague DNA Project received a generous donation by one of our members, Duff Sprague. If you descend from the Spragg line, you may be eligible for a $50 discount on your test kit. (Note: Sprague or other surnames could descend from a Spragg line.) Only two grants are available, so act now! Since this is a donation to encourage participation, please request this grant only if you require financial assistance to participate. Thank you. Genetic Genealogy
What exactly is Genetic Genealogy? Good question!
The following link will bring you to a simple story or example of what Genetic Genealogy or Y-DNA testing is all about. Genetic Genealogy and Telephone Tag.
There are two types of DNA tests now available for genealogical testing: the Y-chromosome (Y-DNA) test and the mitochondria (mtDNA) test. A direct female line can be traced by testing mitochondria DNA. However, since we are presently interested in tracing surnames, which are usually passed from father to son, the testing of the Y-chromosome DNA is what we are interested in. For more information on DNA and Y-chromosome testing see DNA 101 from the Blair DNA Project.*
The Sprague DNA Project is working in cooperation with The Sprague Project - the premier genealogical web source for the Sprague and Sprague-derivative surnames.
